A lack of Butterflies…not at Harbour View
A study by Dorset based wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation has discovered that 72% of butterfly species have declined in their populations over the last decade.
There may be many reasons for this but diminishing countryside is certainly not the only one. How the remaining countryside interacts with nature is important, in particular the availability of meadow over grazing land and access to diverse habitats rather than open fields.
At Harbour View we have found a policy of allowing the grass to grow each Spring to form a meadow had an immediate affect upon wildlife, in particular insects and not least Butterflies, which in turn of course attracts more birds to the grounds.
